In pursuance of the above mentioned notification, leases of Lantao Marine Lots Nos 1 and 2 were in the month of February 1903 respectively granted to the said Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Tsun mentioned in paragraph 7 hereof for the exclusive priviege of searching for and obtaining corals or shells within the area of the said lots for the term of ten years from the expiration of the said notification.
17. The said Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Tsun thereupon commenced business in the month of June 1903 by issuing a circular notice in the words and figures following namely:-
Regulations for the shell-dredging Boats of Our Company.
1.
Any vessel which is desirous of being enlisted as a shell-dredging boat of our Company shall be given by Our Company a flag and a certificate wherein the name of the boat-owner shall be distinctly written who shall not be allowed to lend them to other persons, in order to prevent false pretences. If he is found to have disobeyed this his boat shall be forthwith driven out and shall not be allowed to dredge for shells within the limited area leased by Our Company.

If (owners of) the lime-kilns at different places desire to purchase shells, Our Company shall have the liberty to point them out and supply them with shells by turns and charge them a fixed price of 1 mace and 5 candareens per "tau" (peck) of which 3 candareens shall be deducted by Our Company and the remaining 1 mace and 2 candareens shall be given to the boat as boat-hire and wages for dredging etc. If (owners of) the various kilns do not buy (the shells) Our Company shall undertake to take them over. For every "tau" (peck) carried to our Company's godowns a fixed price of 1 mace 1 candareen and 5 li shall be offered but coolie-hire shall be attended to by the boat poeple themselves.
